On Monday, as Donald “I’m actually an alien in a bad disguise” Trump was blaming Romney’s loss on a “maniacal” position on immigration, Lee also made headlines by opposing what looked like a perfectly reasonable UN treaty on disabilities. Then, on Thursday night, Senator Lee joined with Democrat Senator Diane Feinstein to sponsor an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (“NDAA”) that would assure that American citizens and permanent legal residents apprehended on American soil will be charged and have access to a trial.

Last night I found myself at the Utah Senate District 2 debate watching a bunch of bleeding heart Democrats try their best to convince the 160 Democratic delegates who will vote in the special election that each is the most liberal candidate.
It was like watching the Republican primary debates in reverse. Instead of trying to be the most conservative, they were trying to be the most liberal. I had to pinch myself to see if I was still awake. This is Utah, right?

Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul and Senator from Kentucky, is considering a run for President in 2016.
I know:–Mitt Romney’s campaign is barely dead and in the ground and already we’re hearing the rumblings of 2016’s challengers. Marco Rubio made headlines at a fundraiser in Iowa by commenting on the age of the Earth (HUH?) and now we hear that Ron Paul’s scion is openly interested in running, too.
For the kind of change needed in the Republican Party, it may not be too soon to start thinking about it.
Book Review: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

With Peter Jackson releasing the first of three movies covering J.R.R.Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” this coming December 15, I thought it was time to reread the book.
It’s hard to explain adequately how I feel about “The Hobbit.” Simply put, it’s one of my favorite books, I’ve read it more times than any other novel (though I’m not sure what that tells you about me).
