Tonight, in an event historic for many in Utah, Mitt Romney will take the stage at the Republican National Convention and accept the Republican nomination for President. He’s Utah’s favorite adopted son, “savior” of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and both he and Ann are BYU alumni.

Chris Christi was the key note speaker, but Ann Romney will move the most votes with her more intimate comments about her decades as Mitt Romney’s partner and wife. If swing voters are looking for a reason to like Mitt Romney, Ann made a strong case for giving him a serious look. The Republican National Convention has two more nights, and the case isn’t finished, but Ann Romney started melting everyone (except perhaps Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow) waiting for a reason to warm to Mitt Romney. After much discussion, some negotiation, a few compromises, and a vote, the RNC rules committee has agreed upon a rules adjustment to assure that delegates vote for the candidate that won the primary in their state.
[Hold the line while Ron Paul supporters and other grassroots activists prepare to lam-blast me for misstating the issue.]
OK, I’m back. We ran into the issue directly when we (myself and my Better-half, each with recorders in hand) spread-out through the convention on a story about delegates’ response to Mitt Romney’s faith. Suddenly, we found ourselves on the edge of a crowd chanting.

Packing hygiene kits with the Utah Delegation

With tropical storm/hurricane Isaac crossing the Gulf of Mexico, the schedule for the Republican National Convention was abbreviated today, but that doesn’t mean Utah’s delegates weren’t busy. This morning, after a breakfast honoring Senator Orrin Hatch, the Utah Republican Party organized a humanitarian service project for delegates packing hygiene kits for use in any areas affected by the Isaac storm system.
