BYU v. Mitt Romney: who will Utah watch?

BYU Football will face off against Mitt Romney, er, I mean WSU.

BYU? Or Mitt Romney? What will you watch tonight?

Tonight, in an event historic for many in Utah, Mitt Romney will take the stage at the Republican National Convention and accept the Republican nomination for President. He’s Utah’s favorite adopted son, “savior” of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and both he and Ann are BYU alumni.

Speaking of BYU, it’s the football season opener tonight. While Marco Rubio is introducing Mitt Romney, the Cougars will be taking the field against Washington State University. With all eyes on the grid iron (the U of U has a game, too, but against…I forget. And most Utah fans I’ve asked don’t know the team, either), will any in Utah be watching Romney’s speech?

It’s all about priorities, people.

When I asked the question online, at least one person noted that football comes first.

Fortunately, BYU fans may not need to choose. Speculation is that if the agenda for the convention runs at the same speed as last night, Romney might take the stage during BYU’s half-time. No, not on purpose, just by coincidence.

Of course, Romney could be backstage watching the game and delay taking the stage until half-time, anyway, but…

It’s been a scheduling conundrum for KSL News Radio, our patrons this week, to figure out.

They’ve found a solution, and it appears to involve covering both, at the same time, using The Arrow to cover the game for the duration of Romney speech and switching back to KSL after the speech wraps.
