I’d be dishonest if I didn’t admit that a poster of the space shuttle graced my wall for many a year while I was growing up. I’m sad that the era is ending, but I hope it will not mean the end of space exploration.

Can’t give you a reference, but I recently read an article that bemoaned the fact that we have nothing in the works that can even come close to what the space shuttle program has accomplished; Nothing that will enlarge our knowledge, nothing that can maintain our satellites, be they commercial, intelligence, scientific or military, nothing that can maintain our hard-won lead in space-based research and technology, nothing that will provide the myriad practical spin-off advantages we use every day and take for granted. It may just be another urban myth, but the article also inferred that Pres. Obama was roadblocking every possible, replacement scenario.
