The “time is money” argument is flawed if there isn’t a gainful way you could spend those 9 minutes. If I could work 9 minutes of overtime, then it makes sense (not an option on a salary), but if I’d just spend that 9 minutes reading xkcd anyway, then those 9 minutes don’t equal money (though I’d rather spend 9 minutes reading comics than driving). For somebody who is unemployed/retired/etc and has plenty of time, the savings _could_ theoretically be useful.
However, chances are that the gas you use going that far out of your way will offset the savings anyway…
